The database summarizes who is booked into Erie County jails (by age, race, sex, and zip code), how long they stay, why they are held (charge information), and how they are released. The data offers a glimpse into the patterns and trends that shape jail incarceration in Erie County.
This database compiles statistics from all jail admissions to the Erie County Holding Center and Erie County Correctional Facility between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2023. Both jails are located in Erie County, NY, and are operated by the Jail Management Division of the Erie County Sheriff's Office (ECSO). ECSO provided this data in April 2024 after PPG filed suit for denying our Freedom of Information request submitted in May 2023. PPG submitted a FOIL request for the same data for 2024 and 2025 and is currently appealing another denial by ECSO.
