Erie County’s government is responsible for many of the things that shape our everyday lives. That makes the county legislature an important place to do advocacy. There are 11 legislators, and they have three main jobs: they represent the specific needs of their districts, they make laws for the whole county, and they approve the county budget. If you would like to see change, this is a good place to start.
This paper guides you through how the Erie County Legislature works so you can fight for change by advocating with the legislature about budgets, policies, and laws. PPG Community Researcher Caitlin Love Crowell prepared this fact sheet for the residents of Erie County and for Erie County Legislator Taisha St. Jean Tard. Thanks for the invaluable assistance of County Clerk Olivia Owens, Majority Caucus Deputy Chief of Staff Jakai Harrison, District 2 Director Tess Rine, and PPG staff.
