The following report by the WNY Workers’ Rights Board is the most comprehensive and detailed account of efforts by workers at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency hotel to form a union. This body was made aware of retaliatory actions made by the employer against employees supportive of the union organizing campaign and chose to investigate.

From news reports and the direct testimony of both current and former hotel employees, this board is presented with a common, but consequential, story of workers attempting to exercise their legal rights while facing illegal, unethical, and harmful responses from management and ownership.

Workers at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency were regularly threatened with explicit or implicit retaliation for their protected organizing activity. Allegations of stolen wages, racial discrimination, and surveillance are deeply troubling, as are the firings of multiple workers over the course of the union campaign.
