"In the first year of his second term, President Trump cut federal support for safety net programs that serve average Americans to give tax cuts to wealthy families and corporations. In 2025, he signed 225 executive orders and Public Law 119-21 (also known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill”).

New York State receives federal funding for a variety of services such as health care, transportation, public assistance, education, employment and training, and emergency response and recovery. Most of the federal funding received by the state is for health and human services–such as Medicaid, SNAP, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. The State then sends the money out to municipalities, thus affecting county and city budgets. The loss of federal funding also means a loss of state funding, leaving Western New York ill-equipped to manage the higher share of costs for important services.
