PR Vive Aqui: Roots in Asphalt is a short film depicting the immense impact of building autonomous, unfettered and sacred community spaces through the lens of El Batey Puerto Rican Cultural Center. With a vision “centered around culture, collective advancement, advocacy and empowerment of our youth and people”, El Batey exemplifies the true nature of community building in the face of adversity. Through the living essence of tradition, Puerto Rican culture and communal joy is the profound story of a community leader, Beatriz Flores, with the intuition to coalesce her people around a shared vision for the future and a commitment to a better present.
This feature project is a special edition of The Public Good, the podcast and media arm of Partnership for the Public Good, a community-based think tank that builds a more just, sustainable, and culturally vibrant community rooted in over 380 partner organizations and the urgent needs and systemic challenges they address every day.
