Join us on The Public Good. This week, we speak with Simon Husted, long-time member of Buffalo Transit Riders United - BTRU and Holly Nowak, Executive Director of the CEJ Buffalo about transit equity and sidewalk snow removal in Buffalo. Together with partners, BTRU and CEJ just completed Transit Equity Week, where they volunteered to clear many bus shelters of snow to help ensure bus riders, pedestrians, school children, and neighbors who use wheelchairs or mobility aids have safe spaces to wait for the bus. They're now highlighting a growing call for a municipal sidewalk snow removal program in Buffalo, which would help make sure our neighbors can access sidewalks and safely wait for buses. Too many now are traveling in the street by foot or wheelchair, and with children and strollers, facing dangerous traffic between crowded snowbanks. We discuss how residents can get involved and add their support for a sidewalk snow removal program in this year's City budget.
