In recent years, housing values in some Buffalo neighborhoods have risen dramatically. After the City completes its comprehensive reassessment, homeowners in “hot” neighborhoods may see steep increases in their property taxes in 2019. For some residents, sharp increases may make their housing unaffordable and force them to move. Such displacement would be bad for neighborhood stability and diversity. What can we do about it? The Allentown Association has been meeting with Assemblyman Sean Ryan and other partners to explore possible solutions, including a property tax exemption for low and moderate income homeowners facing sudden tax increases. Come to this town hall to learn more and to voice your concerns and ideas.
