Over the next few months, PPG is hosting Buffalo Common Council members on The Public Good as they discuss their goals and plans for the upcoming year.
This week on The Public Good, we feature Council Majority Leader David Rivera of the Niagara District.
From 1982 to 2008, Council Majority Leader Rivera worked as a Buffalo Police Officer, serving many roles including patrol officer, a confidential aide to Mayor Jimmy Griffin, and a detective sergeant in the General Investigative Unit. He has served on the Common Council since 2008.
The Niagara District encompasses much of the West Side North of Prospect Park and south of Forest Ave. The Niagara District is very diverse and is known for its large population of immigrants and refugees. Over a quarter of residents were born outside of the United States and over 40% speak a language other than English at home. It also has the largest Hispanic/Latinx population in the City.
This episode is part of an ongoing series Common Council Conversations, where members of the Buffalo Common Council discuss what's going on in their district and priorities for the coming year.
The interviews will span a variety of topics. Each Common Council member will be asked about:
The series will allow Buffalo residents to hear from their council members on these important topics and hear more about what’s going on in districts across the city.
