In recent years, Western New Yorkers have rediscovered Buffalo’s Outer Harbor: its natural beauty, ecological importance, and recreational opportunities. Local residents have spoken loud and clear: they want this fragile Great Lakes gem to be permanently protected, naturally restored, and publicly accessible.

The League of Women Voters, Our Outer Harbor Coalition, Citizens for a 21st Century Park on the Outer Harbor, Western New York Environmental Alliance, and Partnership for the Public Good support designating the Outer Harbor on Buffalo’s waterfront as a state park.

This program will feature PPG Senior Policy Fellow Sam Magavern presenting the report "Buffalo’s Outer Harbor: the Right Place for a World Class Park, analyzing the assets and challenges of the Outer Harbor and calling for it to be made a state park.

The event will begin with a short visual introduction of the Outer Harbor by Jay Burney, a WNY Environmental Alliance board member and a founding member of the Our Outer Harbor Coalition. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss advocacy toward creating a state park and how to get involved.
