From day one, the Trump administration plans to willfully ignore climate science and push our planet toward the brink of catastrophe. In the face of federal denialism, it's up to the great state of New York to help lead the fight to save the world.
How? He can start by including the Climate and Community Protection Act (CCPA) in the state's 2017 budget. The CCPA tackles climate pollution in all sectors, while getting frontline communities the resources they need to weather the climate storm, and instituting key labor protections that will ensure good, family-supporting jobs in the renewable energy economy. Unfortunately, we didn’t see anything near this kind of ambition in the budget proposal Cuomo unveiled on January 17th.
So on Monday, January 30th, we’re launching a Thunderclap that will echo across the state, calling on the Governor to lead on climate in this moment of crisis by prioritizing it in the state budget.
You’re probably asking yourself: what is a Thunderclap? It’s a website that allows people to pledge to Tweet or Facebook a message all on the same day--and at the exact same time--in order to achieve maximum impact. Think of this as an online flash mob.
Just 10 days after Trump’s inauguration, help us make sure we’re setting New York on a course to lead the nation in tackling climate change. Our futures depend on it.
