New Report on Good Food at the Buffalo Public Schools

What does good food mean? For a new coalition in Buffalo, it means nutrition, but it means four other values as well: local economies, environmental sustainability, valued workforce, and animal welfare. The Good Food Buffalo coalition will work collaboratively with the Buffalo Public Schools, bringing national resources to our local community.

Good Food Buffalo launched its efforts on April 24 at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.  PPG is a member of Good Food Buffalo, and, at the launch, PPG released a major new report, Good Food Purchasing for the Buffalo Public Schools, which documents the efforts already underway in the Buffalo schools and offers recommendations for future action. Written by PPG research associate Jessica Gilbert, the report offers a wealth of information about recent Buffalo success stories such as the Farm to School program and the new school gardens. It analyzes the tight constraints that school food programs must obey but brings local expertise and national best practices to bear on new paths forward.
