PPG is working with a Rochester-based think tank, CGR, on a community action plan to help Buffalo prevent lead poisoning.
The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, the City of Buffalo, and several other local foundations commissioned PPG and CGR to help craft the plan, inspired by a similar effort in Rochester that CGR prepared. PPG has been out in the community, talking to block clubs, tenants, landlords, advocates, housing agencies, and others to learn more about the community’s issues and priorities with lead poisoning. On June 8, PPG helped host a town hall with experts from Buffalo and Rochester; you can see coverage from Channel 4 and Channel 2. If you would like to provide input for the action plan or have ideas for outreach opportunities, please contact Sam Magavern, sam@ppbuffalo.org. Meanwhile, Assemblyman Sean Ryan has introduced a set of bills on lead poisoning, including a bill to reduce New York State’s lead poisoning trigger point from 10 micrograms per deciliter to 5, as recommended in PPG’s policy brief on Lead Thresholds and Triggers.
