BCAT students present documentary on Buffalo civic leaders

Since the Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology opened in 2012, students from city schools have been working to hone their video production and editing skills under the tutelage of Squeaky Wheel's Kevin Kline.

Those students have pumped out a variety of projects about life in Buffalo. The latest is a collaborative, AT&T-funded documentary called "The Civic Heart" that features interviews with about a dozen community leaders.  (After  its premiere screening, the film will be available online.)

"Now more than ever, we are re-evaluating what it means to be engaged in our communities, politics and neighborhoods," a description of the project reads. "Buffalo is known as 'The City of Good Neighbors,' and we see this shown true in many ways in our daily lives. The activist and civic scene in Buffalo is vibrant and diverse, with many areas of social, political and environmental ideas being represented."

Local officials interviewed for the project include Mayor Byron W. Brown, Rep. Brian Higgins, New York State Assemblywoman Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes, Sarah Wooten from Partnership for the Public Good and Samantha Nephew of Citizen Action of New York.
