Attention PPG Partners: Submit Your Priorities for the 2018 Community Agenda

Date: November 2, 2017

Each year, PPG crafts a Community Agenda, which identifies our partners’ top policy priorities for the coming year. The Community Agenda is a useful tool for education, advocacy, and collaboration, and it also guides the work of PPG staff and volunteers throughout the year – shaping our research, forums, radio shows, and other efforts.

To submit a plank, download the 2018 proposal form here. As the form states, your proposal must be linked to an active campaign, already existing or planned, and we ask you to briefly explain how the proposal will benefit the community and how PPG can add value to your effort. Please submit your proposal form to andrea@ppgbuffalo.org by Wednesday, November 8.

We're also looking for partners to join our Agenda Committee, which meets twice to review and help improve proposals. The committee will meet on Thursday, November 9 at 9am and Tuesday, November 14 at 4pm, at PPG (617 Main Street, Floor 3R). If you are submitting a proposal, we strongly suggest that you come to a committee meeting to discuss your idea and engage with other partners too. Please RSVP for those meetings to andrea@ppgbuffalo.org by Wednesday, November 8.

2018 Community Agenda Process:

1.       PPG invites partners to place representatives on the Agenda Committee, which will meet twice.

2.       All partners are invited to submit potential planks to the Agenda Committee. Only PPG partners (and PPG itself) may submit planks.

3.       PPG staff and board review, edit, and possibly winnow down the potential planks.

4.       Partners vote to determine the top ten planks at a meeting; partners must attend the meeting to vote.  For each plank, one of the partners promoting it will give a three-minute speech in its favor, followed by one question from the floor. Each partner will vote for its top five potential planks.

Plank Criteria:

1.       The partner proposing the plank must be planning to work actively on that plank over the coming year; and must commit to:

a)       speak to the topic at the Community Agenda Roll Out and help with turn-out for the Roll Out;

b)      attend an advocacy training and at least two meetings with elected officials to educate them on the entire Agenda;

c)       co-sponsor and help publicize a public forum on the topic.

2.       The plank must be one where tangible progress or success can be achieved within one year, and where PPG’s involvement would help bring that success.

3.       The plank must have particular relevance and promise for the Buffalo-Niagara region (in general, it will involve state or local policy, not federal).
