It was a milestone year at PPG, as we celebrated our tenth anniversary. Reflecting on our anniversary theme of Beauty and Democracy, our co-founder and board chair Lou Jean Fleron reminded us, “PPG grew organically from this community—from the need for a way to strengthen unheard voices, to promote collaboration, to advance knowledge and experience sharing at the grassroots level, to improve local government policies.” These are the goals that continue to drive our work today.
We hope that you’ll consider a donation to help us continue this work, and join us in building a better Buffalo.
With your support and the immense contributions of our now 275 partner organizations, we are proud of the progress we’ve made in the last decade:
- 25+ policy wins, from reaching community benefits agreements with local banks to helping create Buffalo’s first community land trust to increasing citizen oversight of police.
- 94 community agenda planks created by our partners; next week, another 10 will be voted onto our 2018 community agenda.
- 150 Cornell University High Road Fellows spent their summers in Buffalo doing community development work with our partners, from Say Yes to Breadhive Worker Cooperative to Jericho Road Community Health Center.
- 300+ radio shows aired weekly on WUFO, featuring our partners and their priorities.
- 400+ publications documented pressing issues in our community, captured residents’ insights through collaborative research, and recommended policy changes.
- Countless visits to public officials, testimonies at public hearings, press conferences, negotiation meetings, public advocacy trainings, community-academic partnerships, and bus tours that helped many groups get to know our city better.
These numbers represent an ever-growing movement for a more just, sustainable, and culturally vibrant community, made up of everyday people advancing the public good.
