Each week, PPG summarizes important takeaways from the major Buffalo Common Council meetings. We also include information from council meetings related to our Community Agenda items. If you want to learn more about how the council meetings work and how you can get involved, check out our guide.
For this summary, we will report on the last Regular meeting of the year.
The Regular meeting began with a commendation of Al-Nisa Banks for her 45 years as owner and publisher of the Buffalo Challenger and ended with recognition ceremonies for two departing council members.
Their departures are part of a great many retirements and position changes at the city, county, and state levels this year. Ulysses Wingo represented the Masten District and will be replaced by Zeneta Everhart. Darius Pridgen represented the Ellicott District as the Council President and will be replaced by Leah Halton-Pope as the Ellicott District council member.
Long-time community activist Dennice Barr spoke on behalf of advocates for the Fruit Belt, thanking Pridgen for his work.
