Director of the Buffalo and Erie County Lead Safe Task Force

Tabitha Wechter

Tabitha is the Director of the Buffalo and Erie County Lead Safe Task Force. In this position, she collaborates with the many stakeholders invested in ending lead poisoning, including researchers, partner organizations, public administrations and affected communities. Through engagement, education, advocacy and policy change, the Task Force works to remediate the systemic dangers of lead pollution and poisoning. 

 

A recent graduate from the University at Buffalo with an MA in Sustainability Leadership, her research interests focus on the legacy of lead pollution in urban soils, and the role that land transformation and community building can play in mitigating lead poisoning. More broadly, Tabitha is interested in working towards creative solutions rooted in environmental justice, that ensure the wellbeing of Buffalonians when interacting with both their built and natural landscape. 

 

Tabitha’s background is in urban food systems with a focus on grassroots community engagement and partnership building. Through an emphasis on sustainability and community resiliency, Tabitha is striving to contribute to a safer and more just Buffalo.
