Sarah Wooton moved to Buffalo a decade ago from her hometown outside of Rochester, NY. After getting her B.A. in Educational Studies at Colgate University, Sarah sought to find work relevant to social change. She completed a short-term research project on microloans in Nakuru, Kenya, then went on to work as a paralegal in the housing department of a Buffalo-based legal services agency. Assisting clients facing eviction and poor housing conditions, Sarah was frustrated seeing the cyclical nature of housing insecurity, and her interests shifted toward policy change.
She began working at the Partnership for the Public Good as an Americorps member and later transitioned to a Community Researcher. Sarah is now the Director of Community Research at PPG. She assists PPG partners with local research, policy advocacy, and campaign strategy. Most of her work revolves around housing in Buffalo and community control of land.
Sarah has also worked as an eCornell Course Facilitator for Cornell University, facilitating courses in the Equitable Community Change Certificate. She is a 2016 graduate of the Open Buffalo Emerging Leaders program.
